Roommate Cooking Time #4

Can you say .....
Shrimp & Sausage GUMBO!!!?
We tried our best to replica the recipe by Kevin & Amanda

1. Chop up your vegetables
2. Stir-fry them in a pot

Add 4 cups of chicken broth, some pepper and cayenne pepper

You have created your soup base
Bring it to a boil, then let it simmer

Boil hot water and cook the shrimp

Peel the shrimp shell

Here we purchased a pack of Smoked Spicy Garlic Sausage

Andrew looking happy because he is about to eat an amazing meal

Cook the sausage till it is lightly browned

1. Using the excess oil from the sausage, melt 2 tablespoons of butter
2. When it is foamy, add 2 tablespoons of flour
3. When it is lightly brown, add the mixture to the gumbo soup base

Here is Chef Cynthia making the finishing touches
1. Add the shrimp and sausage to the gumbo
2. Let everything simmer for 10 minutes before serving
- We did not add the Gumbo paste because we didn't think we would ever use it again so we didn't want to purchase it. The Gumbo paste would have thickened and browned the broth

Cook some rice to compliment the Gumbo

Masterpiece complete

Gumbo over rice
This was so delicious. It had a smokey and spicy flavor from the sausage combined with fresh vegetables and shrimps. The soup base was a little watery as expected since we did not add the gumbo paste. Overall, after 1 hour of cooking, I concur that we did an excellent job!

I just could not wait to text all my friends about our "fancy" cooking
